What The Eucalyptus
When I think of Eucalyptus, I immediately think of the main plant in a bohemian-modern wedding flower arrangement. You know what I’m talking about…it’s the photo of the stunning bride in her lace dress with this gorgeous bouquet FULL of greenery and eucalyptus. We’ve all re-pinned that photo, so don’t even.
Eucalyptus has about 700 species of plants, and covers over 200 MILLION acres of land in Australia alone. Everyone’s probably breathing great over there, ya know what I’m sayin?
If you’ve ever been interested in Eucalyptus essential oils, I’m sure you’ve noticed that there are 3 different options for oils on Young Living’s store. What’s the difference?
Eucalyptus GLOBULUS is steam distilled from the leaves of Eucalyptus trees native to China. It has been studied for its use as an insect repellant. Some doctors today still use eucalyptus oil on surgical dressings. E. Globulus also supports respiratory and sinus function as well as soothing sore muscles and relieving occasionally stiff joints.
Eucalyptus BLUE is steam distilled from the leaves of Eucalyptus trees native to Ecuador. It is the ONLY Eucalyptus found in the world today that does NOT cause an allergic reaction in people who have allergies to eucalyptol, despite its very high percentage of this key constituent. It is also not suitable for internal use because of this high percentage of eucalyptol. It is used for respiratory support to promote normal breathing and to soothe sore muscles. E. Blue is said to be a great companion to Dorado Azul.
Eucalyptus RADIATA is steam distilled from the leaves of Eucalyptus trees native to Australia. This is the eucalyptus found in the YL exclusive Thieves blend and all of the products in the Thieves line. It is the most mild of the 3, yet still effective, which is why it is preferred for use on children. It supports respiratory and sinus function. When combined with Bergamot, E. Radiata can help fight off cold sores.
So which one do you get? Well, that is completely up to you and what you’re wanting to use it for! I started with Eucalyptus Globulus, and diffuse it alongside Lavender when any of us have a cold or congestion. Lavender helps relax and promotes a good nights sleep, while EG is promoting easy breathing.
If you love the smell of Eucalyptus in general, any of these will be a treat for your soul. Happy Oiling!
