Sustainably Sleeping

I grew up sleeping on other people’s beds. What I mean by that is, if we had a bed, it was because someone else gave it to me. I slept on a hand-me-down full sized bed from a neighbor until I moved out of my house. I moved into a furnished room, and slept on that bed until I moved into another place that already had a bed. I moved seven times in one year, and always slept on mattress’ that were already in the room, or I took someone’s old mattress that they didn’t need anymore.

Even after getting married, we were given an old King mattress from a friend. After deciding to move from Colorado to Tennessee, we couldn’t fit the mattress into our moving truck. It felt like a great excuse to finally get a brand new bed that we could call our own, but upon arrival, the classic unexpected expenses scenario happened to us.

After TWO YEARS of waiting, saving, having friends and family help out, and hoping for a new mattress, I finally was able to get one and it is a DREAM(pun intended).

After researching every sustainably made mattress on the market, I would always come back to Avocado. They followed every guideline on my list, and the reviews were outstanding. I purchased a King-Sized Vegan Mattress with the Pillowtop included

Then, I needed bedding. Well, wanted, not needed. But still.

I had already used Parachute’s linen duvet set, which I liked, but didn’t LOVE. The fitted sheet ended up disintegrating, and I was under the impression that linen got better with each wash, and it did not. I would absolutely still buy duvet covers from them amongst a multitude of other dreamy products!

I wanted to find sheets that were not only durable, but sheets that my heat-emitting husband could sleep comfortably in. After doing a lot of research for the best, all-season sheet material, I chose percale. Now, I needed to pick a color and a sustainable brand!

Insert one of my favorite brands of all time:

PACT

We have been using Pact for all of our clothing basics ever since they began as a company in Colorado. Since then, they’ve expanded past basics and offer a multitude of sustainably-made products including bedding. Once I saw their rust-orange percale sheets, it was a VERY easy yes. (Use code MISSIC20 for 20% off)

I can confidently say that I am sleeping like a fricken QUEEN. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. Worth the price? 110%. Knowing that everything I’m sleeping on was made ethically and sustainably makes it even sweeter(that’s the tree-hugger talking).

Better sleep is ALWAYS worth the investment, in my opinion. You will spend the majority of your life in bed, so why not be picky about it?
