A Sustainable Stay// Colorado Springs, CO

After our original road trip plans fell through, we decided on a staycation for Spring Break, but we weren’t totally sure where to go. We thought about going to the mountains, but the ever-changing Colorado weather proved yet another week of an already very long winter. We knew if we went into the mountains, we wouldn’t be able to make it back for a few days due to the 100% change of snow in the forecast.

We had talked about going to the zoo at some point, but knew that the Denver zoo would be full of other kiddos on break, so we looked into the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo down in Colorado Springs instead. I made a booking at a hotel through Hotels.com, and planned a few nights of adventure.

After going to the zoo and having the BEST time, we got ready to head to the hotel. Driving to the original location, the directions took us to an area I was completely unfamiliar with. We sat in the parking lot and just felt so uncomfortable with the area. Angela with Hotels.com was an absolute saint, and helped us with the last-minute cancellation.

We decided to drive to an area that we felt more comfortable with, and to look at the hotels that were there. We drove past Kinship, and decided to take a peek at the website to see what their availability was and the room layouts.

To say I was immediately blown away is an understatement. The options for rooms facilitated every type of traveler. “One-of-a-kind rooms, with unique layouts to host every kind of traveler — shared bunk rooms inspired by solo travels and the international hostel experience; relaxing suites with mountain views and balconies; stylish junior suites with options like pet-friendly upgrades* or fun lofted bunk options for friends and families; ADA accessible rooms throughout — all thoughtfully designed with custom-built wood furniture by local craftsmen and curated essentials of our favorites.”(description via the website)

We booked the Jr. Queen & Bunk suite and scored a discount with their Winter Jackpot promotion. They also offered a bed and breakfast option for an extra $30 which included a $30 credit towards Homa cafe(which is situated right in the lobby), and allowed you an additional hour before check out.

As soon as we walked in, we were speechless. the sleek design of the rooms made it feel like a home instead of a hotel room. it was relaxed and simple, while also full of detail.

The beds were the original mattress from Tuft & Needle, equipped with a mattress topper for added comfort. The sheets are Brooklinen, adding another level of breathability and comfort. I immediately noticed the pillow covers from Mae Woven, because I have a few of my own!

The vanity was equipped with all the eco-friendly necessities, including refillable toiletries like hand soap, lotion, and shampoo & conditioner in the shower. There was a refrigerator and hairdryer, as well as a kettle for coffee in the morning

There was a TON of storage space for luggage and shoes, stainless steel cups for water, mugs for coffee, a recycling option, and a desk space just in case you were traveling for work.

My favorite details were the eco-friendly ones(of course) that went beyond just providing recycling. The mattresses, the sheets, the refillable toiletries, and a keypad entry to eliminate plastic waste from keycards; all simple details to some, but details that make a huge impact on the environment.

If you couldn’t tell already, we will absolutely be back to stay here on our next staycation! Thank you so much Kinship for providing such an incredible place for people to feel at home away from home
